The lesson I learned from a pizza promotion. Read this! =)

Hi There!

It's true! I had one of my biggest
aha's in about two years this past
weekend. It was SO big that I had
to share it with you.

It began about two weeks ago when
I visited my local Marco's Pizza.
Upon entering they had a HUGE sign
that said 'join our email list'
to receive coupons/special offers.
I signed up, much like you did to
my email list at some point from
some where ;-)

Well......A week later I received
a welcome email and then on Saturday
I received my first promotional email
(OF MANY). It gave me a number of
options and a number of special
discounts ONLY available to email
subscribers and ONLY available for
a few days.

My light went off instantly!

There was NO option for FREE pizza
or to trial the pizza before I bought
it, or to invest by the slice. They
gave me a discount to TRY it, but I
too had to engage in a relationship
with them (by purchasing the pizza).

It's an important point because I
feel there has been a HUGE disservice
done to the term 'email marketing'.
Or maybe an even better term is
'Internet Marketing', I'm SURE you've
heard of it.

Here's my BIG point.....

There seems to be a wide spread
mindset that if you market a business
via email or via the internet that it's
LESS VALUABLE than other types of
businesses. It seems that subscribers
EXPECT FREE services, FREE trials, FREE
teleclasses and FREE downloads.
Why?

As in my example with my pizza place,
YES, I got a discount but I had to BUY
the pizza, we BOTH had something
invested. THIS is commerce.

Here's my BIGGER point.....

IF Marco's doesn't get me to try their
pizza we have NO RELATIONSHIP. There
is essentially NOTHING TO LOSE. The
way they stay in business long term, is if
individuals like me, try their pizza, like
it and then continue to buy it. Also,
they have to have GOOD service and
GOOD pizza to keep the business, but
again THIS is commerce.

So their emails entice me to TRY what
they have to offer.... to start a
relationship. And like you, if I'm no
longer interested in their pizza, I can
unsubscribe. It's the same principle
with weekly coupons in the newspaper,
the weekly ads for home goods, coupon
val-packs, etc. They want you to TRY
what they have to offer, so you can make
a decision about it.

Makes sense right.....
